When I first started the AS Media Studies course, I did have some basic knowledge and skills from past experience in the media industry, but this was a minimal. Whilst filming my preliminary task I have not only learnt skills relating to media but I have also feel I have learnt skills around organisational skills.
In terms of organisational skills I have learned to ensure that everyone has got a copy of all the footage and work needed, as I personally experienced problems with this. This was because in an original group of me and 2 other students, however, the two other students decided that the course was not for them and resigned from it. This left me in a position where I had to re film my preliminary task because all of the footage was on the other students account, which I could not get access to.
My Media skills have vastly improved from the time of producing my preliminary task and producing my contrust for my coursework. In my thriller film opening i have demonstrated many new skills that I have learnt around camera shots and angles, editing techiniques and combining diegetic and non diegetic sound to create a high aspect of eeriness and tension. These are skills that i have not neccesarily used before and include jump cuts, fast paced editing, close ups, extreme close ups and much more. This is an improvement for me as previously i would have used minimal knowledge of just a camera and tripod and basic editing software such as windows movie maker. For our editing we used IMovie, which is a piece of software, not just me but my group, had to adapt to because none of us have ever used it. At first we found this quite challenging, but after a numerous amount of times using the software, we got used to and used the different features really well.
